Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta now open…again!

Update 3:  The new release date for the beta is now September 1st @ 19:00.  T-minus a few hours and counting, hope you all have your clients ready!

Update 2: So while earlier we posted that the game would be ready for open beta tonight, all potential players are now greeted with the following message: “FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010, will be postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs. New schedule will be releaseｄ at a later date.”

There you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth! Keep it tuned here and we’ll let you know when the flood gates open up again!  Our original post follows:

You heard right!  We just received word early this morning from Square Enix that the FFXIV open beta will launch today. This is the beta for the Windows version of the game.  No word yet on the PS3 version.  According to the information provided to us you can get started at the sign up page: http://entry.ffxiv.com/ The email we received states that the page will be accessible starting today at 19:00 but we’ve just checked and it seems to be up and running (guess it would have helped if they included the time zone!).  The only requirements are that you have an active Square Enix account and that your system meet the minimum system requirements (listed at the end of this article.)  If you go to the bottom of the signup site you’ll see a message stating “In preparation for the open beta, we have made the client software’s installer available for early download!”  Its about 120MB in size so be sure to jump in it, I’ve got my copy installed and ready to go.

One thing we will mention is “As long as the World you choose in the commercial release is the same as the World you choose in the open beta test, you will be able to transfer your character name.” So if anything be sure to jump in early and save your name. Here’s hoping its better than my experiences with FFXI!
